The Expeditionary Approach at TJS sparks curiosity and discovery, helping students develop resilience by breaking challenges—whether a tough math problem or a new skateboard trick—into manageable steps. Skate Club develops confidence, thoughtful risk-taking, and peer collaboration, skills that enhance academic performance. Through hands-on projects, students engage in intellectual inquiry, physical exploration, and community service. A rigorous curriculum ensures they are prepared for high school and beyond.
Set Up for Success
"Small" at TJS means known, heard, recognized, celebrated, and supported. We limit the class size to 18 in kindergarten and first grade and 24 in 2nd-8th grades. Scholars get the personal, comprehensive attention they need to have an exceptional educational experience. Each child is seen as a unique, whole individual with their own learning style, personality, and needs. Small group and targeted instruction, plus a gifted program, ensure every student thrives.
Challenged, Supported, & Guided
The whole child deserves our whole attention. We see well-being as equally important to gaining academic strength. Restorative practices in our relationships teach us to listen, reflect, and grow together in compassion and kindness. Our training on mindfulness, peer relationships, and the science behind our emotions makes the middle school years smoother. TJS has a full-time counselor, a full-time restorative practices coordinator, and a part time-social emotional specialist, and all staff receive training in supporting students' social and emotional needs in the classroom.

Juniper Club After-School
Working parents need support, too! Our after-school program provides fun, affordable care for elementary students from 3:20 until 5:30. Students participate in movement, arts, music, relaxation, games, and much more! The cost for students is $14 each day. We do allow for drop-in sessions, but space is limited to the first 20 students.
Extracurriculars at Escalante
Middle school students are ready for action and socialization with peers in their own age group. We partner with Escalante to give TJS middle school students access to joint after-school activities, athletics, and clubs. Parents provide transportation to Escalante, or students can take the bus to our neighboring school for after-school extracurriculars. It's a win-win!

According to the 2022 CMAS, TJS is the #1 charter school, and in the top 1% of ALL Colorado schools for not only catching students up but supporting them to rise above grade level.
